Program Overview

Miners or persons who are exposed to mine hazards and are not required to take new miner or experienced miner training as specified in Section 48.22(a)(2) will receive the following training prior to commencing work on mine property. The training will be given at least once every 12 months. Experienced short-term contract workers, such as drillers or blasters, who received training under Section 48.26 may receive hazard training in lieu of more experienced miner training for each new mine employment.

Health and safety standards, safety rules, and safe working procedures.

This course shall encompass a discussion of Lockout / Tagout; Welding and Cutting procedures; Slings and rigging Hazards.

Use of self-rescue and respiratory devices, including: Hands-on training in the complete donning of all types of self-contained self-rescue devices used at the mine, which includes assuming a donning position, opening the device, activating the device, inserting the mouthpiece, and putting on the nose clip; and Hands-on training in transferring between all applicable self-rescue devices

The training plan for this virtual classroom course is approved by MSHA. At completion, students will obtain the 5000-23 form to work on a mine site.
